I forgot to comment on your audience. Audiences don't have to be "children" / "YA" / "adult". They can and should be more specific than that. While "adult" does have the connotation "erotica," you wouldn't say that soap operas are "adult," but they also don't target children or young adults. They traditionally target women in their 20's and 30's, and more specifically, stay-at-home moms. Stay-at-home moms tend to be lacking in adult conversations and interactions (therefore the over-the-top drama appeals to them) and have household responsibilities (hence, every other commercial is for some cleaning product or other.)
