One thing I've been avoiding is making up new words, or more specifically, words of magic spells. In prep and even in my stories I just state they are "chanting the words to a spell" because I just don't want to sit down and write them out in detail. I think about books such as Harry Potter, where there is an entire language behind the spells they use. Some days I barely manage town names or people names, but new words for magic terms or spells I'm seriously dreading.
I was thinking about maybe picking another language or even a mix of languages (maybe old ones that aren't used as much, such as Latin?), and then translating something basic. What are some methods you use when coming up with nonsensical or magical phrases?
