It sounds like it's the IM messages themselves that freeze things up? Not the notification?

No, it's definitely the notifications. I was confused on the difference, but your referred post made it clearer. I had to think about it! But yes, soon as I get the Notification-- especially if I happen to be submitting a post or edit at the same time. I tend to save my work a lot.

If so, closing the IM console while you're doing other things should keep the IMs from opening until you're ready to deal with them -- "Re: Re: Re: Re: IMs Auto Opening".

Say, if someone sends an IM (from their IM Log) when I am not available, will I get them when I do enable IMs again? I've not found this to be affirmative before. Hmm...
