Error for Bio-Block

I was editing my bio at the top of my port, I hit submit, and it was "Updating..." with the spinning circle forever. I stared at it for a while, before realising it was over the character count limit. It would've saved me some time and confusion if it just came up with an error, rather than trying and failing to update it? Or, is it supposed to, and for whatever reason, didn't with me?
