I was thinking about this last night and reverted to my 1980s college education: Pseudo-code as an outline. Write out a basic flow of how the main story will be intertwined with the short stories. Most of the stories will be sci-fi or fantasy - again going back to my D&D days/daze - but I'll try to get in romance, horror, action/adventure, and suspense stories in now and then.
