This totally happened to me. Or rather, I was one week into November and my idea just wasn't coming together and I was running out of steam.

Switched gears in the middle of November and managed to win! Sometimes, you just have to go where the inspiration strikes. You could start outlining the new idea and see which one is inspiring you the most when midnight October 31 nears.
