I've probably encountered every logical fallacy at sometime in the past. In addition, I've probably used at least one of them in an argument, I can't give an example of this. I say it because of the fact that when I was younger, I tended to be somewhat political, and people arguing politics will--sometimes without thinking--use logical fallacies in their arguments.
Which logical fallacy is more common? I have no idea.
How does knowing the logical fallacies help communication? It lets individuals avoid them, and gives them the ability to detect them. This strengthens the argument, and helps the person detect these fallacies other people's arguments.
