"On top of all that the story I prepped for is not the story I am now writing."
Believe it or not, that happens a lot to most of us.

Just do the best you can and write what feels right. I keep changing, adding, subtracting to and from my last outline, too.

As to the word count, if you have the novel item in your port, you can access the word count from its tools thingy. If your novel is not in your port, then there are free word-count apps online. I have downloaded one into my laptop, called the "Simple Word Counter," even though I have Word.
