That totally makes sense to me, Neva. My own birthday isn't far off from Christmas (17th) and it definitely felt like my birthday presents were combined with Christmas presents. As in, "here's a little something now, but you'll get more for Christmas in a few days." Whereas my brothers born in May got a full set of gifts for Christmas and their birthdays.
Now that I've gotten older, I totally understand that, and I think I was fairly okay with it even then. My parents were still launching their careers and didn't have enough money to get a ton of stuff for both my Christmas and birthday with them being so close together.
I have heard similar sentiments as yours though, especially with people who were born on the eve, day of, or day after Christmas. It's difficult to have a separate celebration for the two events.
