I've lived in Austin, at this same apartment for almost a year. The preacher isn't a neighbor. He was doing his rounds in our neighborhood, probably trying to recruit people to his new church. And, ya, I know their reasoning is because they are taught that they need to save souls. Although, this attitude comes off as overassertive and judgmental, especially when the other person asks them to leave and they keep talking. He wasn't ignorant about what the pentacle means. He assumed I was Wiccan because his sister-in-law is. So he came to my door armed and ready to prove my so-called Wiccan beliefs false. I'm not Wiccan. The assumption sort of annoys me, especially when other Pagans assume everyone is Wiccan. I call myself an eclectic Pagan because I really don't care to explain my spiritual beliefs to everyone. Anywho, I'm more of a Hermetic witch, because I incorporate Hermetic teachings into Pagan ritual aspects with the Canaanite and Mesopotamia diety. I don't have a car, but my boyfriend has a truck. He has bumper stickers on his back window and on the large toolbox. One is a Satanic Temple of Austin sticker, another is a Pagan and proud sticker, and then he's got a metal plate for The Odd Fellas and a metal plate for The Masons nailed to his toolbox. All are pretty obvious. When I lived in the hill country, like your experience, nobody bothered me. I miss that sort of privacy. The city is quite different. I agree it is nice having friends who have similar religious (or non-religious) beliefs. Honestly, at the moment, for the most part, my only Christian friends I have are online. Most of the people I hang out with offline are either Athiest or Pagan. I do have one Christian friend, but she is more like your friend who got upset at you. She considers herself Christian, but she dabbles in the supernatural aspects, like the Tarot, so her and I have some mutual beliefs in common. Your friend might handle Christians somewhat like I do people who have different beliefs. I find the commonality and talk about that, rather than focus on the differences. So, she might have just found your spiritual similarities and focused on that. ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** "Invalid Item" ![]() |
