Under Construction - MHWA Retreat

I see myself represented in more than one! I am bi-polar, suffer from depression, and OCD. This artwork is an accurate depiction of mental illness, for sure. I see myself reflected here as well as other family members. My grandson who is also bi-polar is a gifted guitarist, my nephew is artistic as is my daughter.
I used to draw and paint, but my hands are too screwed up from arthritis now. I crochet and do needlework ~ My OCD kicks in there because if there is one tiny flaw, I will rip it out and start over.
I do think people with mental illnesses are more prone to creativity. Maybe because we go into an almost trance-like state blocking out everything around us while we're creating.
