A support forum for writers dealing with mental illness |
Sometimes I feel split, partitioned, or isolated into cubicles that separate me from the rest of humanity; even my own priorities. Some of the things I have encountered over the past couple of years is the hate and prejudice that seems to be associated with the "Make America Great Again" concept. This is a polarizing topic that focuses on segregating and isolating American citizens and humanity into conclaves by color, religion, national origination, gender, etc. I find this concept frightening and false. I believe that humanity is a single species. That all religions are sent to us by the same Unknowable Creator who has manifest Divine attributes through individuals at different times through history. I believe that unbridled nationalism is one of the issues that is causing problems in the world today. I see myself as a world citizen, who just happens to be an American citizen. I vote in elections because--I believe--that is what a loyal citizen of any country and the planet is supposed to do. I registered nonpartisan (referred to as Independent), and attempt (sometime successfully) to look at the issues and the candidates with an investigative eye. I know that my religious and political beliefs are polarizing and considered radical by some. I know that in some countries (not yet America) these beliefs could get me killed or put into prison. I attempt to empathize with others and listen to their reasons for believing the way they do. I will not argue or demand someone else agree because everyone is entitled to their opinion. In most polarizing situation I attempt empathy. If empathy is rejected or doesn't work, I'm more likely to walk away before getting into an argument. |
