Thanks for the perspective. I too would probably be depressed if in such a situation. And, yes, it does create a lot of chaos in an already challenging job. Her screaming upsets the other patients on the hall, which creates sort of a domino effect.
I suppose I do have some sympathy for her predicament. I mean, she feels glued to that bed with not much else to do but watch television, do crossword puzzles, etc. Maybe I'd be pissed off at the world too if that was my outcome.
People have told her that it is unacceptable to be so hateful to the people trying to help her, but it doesn't change anything. If anything, she gets worse. She'll say they were being rude to her, rather than accepting what they are saying. Even though she is hateful, I have to make sure I maintain some sort of sympathy so that I do my job with love and compassion, rather than being cold.
