A support forum for writers dealing with mental illness |
Do you think society has the tendency to make villains out of normal people? How so? Why or why not? First, I don't think there is any such thing as a normal person. Each human being is a unique individual, with their own talents, fears, hopes, and dreams. Each individual has an effect on and is affected by the society and culture in which they are born and in which they live. Villains are created by a combination of interactions with society, family, and themselves. The biggest problem with blaming society is that it doesn't solve the problem. The only thing that blaming society for a villain or a criminal is making society t he scapegoat. Society is not an individual human, it is a group of human beings interacting with each other. The trailer gave the impression that society is a group of sick human beings making themselves feel better by bullying those who appear different from them. It revealed the them and us mentality that is prevalent in the world today. What are some everyday dystopian elements that are commonplace in society? One of the main problems with society today is the focus of insurance companies on the bottom line, and making their board of directors happy with excessive profits and salary. We need a healthcare system that covers every individual in society, whether they can afford medical treatment or not. The present healthcare system rewards the rich by letting them live longer with their illnesses taken care of than it does the middle class or low income individuals and families. What are some of the effects of long-term bullying on a person’s psyche? One of the biggest effect of bullying is low self-esteem and feelings of unworthiness. While each individual has different talents, all human beings are equal in the diversity of the human family. How do you feel about mental health representations in movies such as this? Are they exploitative of mental health sufferers or do they draw much-needed attention to those issues? Are they too dark? How would you portray mental illness in a film character? I don't like the way mental health is presented in movies because the movies don't show the entire picture. Movies show only part, and usually a very distorted part, of the problem. Mental health is only a part of an individual's life; however, it is a very important part because it causes issues in other parts of the individual's life and in society. |
