A support forum for writers dealing with mental illness |
I agree with all the quotes. I agree that the greatest gift to someone and to the entire world actually is your own personal development. By personal development I mean 'don't be a social parasite'. Be the person who is necessary to the world. The second quote, 'if you will take care of me, I will take care of you', also has true and strong points. No matter how much we push self-care as a primary idea of growth, we can't do everything all by ourselves most of the time. We need support and encouragement from others. And we need to be able to give the same so that the world can function normally... which brings me to the last quote, 'I will take care of me for you, if you will take care of you for me'. This is the most important idea in the story because everything else starts from here. First, I want to clarify that taking care of yourself before someone else has nothing to do with selfishness and is a totally legit idea. But this is only in case you, actually, take care of yourself so you can provide good means (in any form-physical or mental, consciously or not) to someone else. That's what this last quote is all about. I can't tell you how many people I met who think only their own feelings matter above everyone else's because of whatever reasons. THIS IS selfishness. Although we are our own person we do not live in this world alone. Your feelings DO matter so as everyone else's. With this being said, I'm going back to the beginning of this post- the greatest gift to someone is your own personal development. Be good to yourself because THEN you will be good to the others, too. I have never experienced a situation where someone I cared for didn't care for themselves but, like many others, I've seen this in other people. This is when the last quote by Jim Rohn shows its importance. To me personally, the most important aspect of personal development is being open-minded. Apply an open mind to every aspect in life, it doesn't have to be mental health related only. I love to explore different things and learn. With this act, you help yourself enter the world of different perspectives which is important for self-growth as well as someone else's benefits. “When my information changes, I alter my conclusions.
