I wasn't sure that I understood/agreed with your response until right at the end where it all sort of clicked in. That last line was a very eloquent, succinct, and beautiful sentiment.

Reading back through, I find that I agree with a lot of your points. I hadn't thought about it like that (because I saw the views in the quote as more of a starting point for self care anyway) but I do agree that you need to want to get better for yourself as well for something like that to really stick.
