A support forum for writers dealing with mental illness |
What do you think of this quote? Agree? Disagree? Somewhere in between? Why? Individuals need to take care of themselves or they encounter burnout. A person needs some "me time" to recharge and to sort out issues that come up when interacting with other human beings. If we take care of ourselves, we are more likely to avoid depression or other issues that arise when we are dealing with other humans. Have you ever experienced a situation where someone you cared for did not care for themselves? What was that experience like for you? I'm going through a situation like this right now. A family member goes into a deep depression a and, usually, ends up getting drunk. I know she's in a depression because of a conversation we had last week. She doesn't live in Las Vegas, and even if she did I'm not sure there is anything I could do. She won't talk to me or any of my siblings bout her problems. About the only thing I can do is pray for her and hope she doesn't to anything foolish before she gets out of the depression she is in. Fortunately, she has a cat she needs to take care of. What personal developments do you need to work on/have you worked on to take better care of yourself for someone else’s sake? First, I need to get my hair cut. I haven't had it cut in about four months. It always makes me feel better to have a professional cut my hair. Second, to get a decent nights sleep. Right now my sleep pattern is messed up worse than usual. Last night I didn't get much sleep at all. There are probably other things I need to do, which will get don when I've solved the present financial issues. |
