Thank. Oh, please don't ever let the spark die. Sometimes that's the only thing that can keep you going (at least it was for me). Sometimes it seems writing and submitting will never result in anything but rejections, but if you keep at it long enough that's almost garantueed to change. I'm on a private forum elsewhere for professionally published writers where some people mentioned having to wait decades for an acceptance or between their first and second acceptance, but they were publishing regularly now because they never gave up. I keep my story privacy setting as "registered users" or (more often now) "registered authors". This way the stories aren't publically available (potential readers need to be WdC users) but instead password protected, and therefore, according to every magazine editor or author I've ever seen talk about the subject, not published. So far I haven't had any problems with this; though, I've published a couple of stories, so I don't have that many data points. I don't have an IRL writing group, so basically everything I write that isn't going straight to the trash can after the first draft goes up on WdC. I don't want to submit anything that hasn't gotten atleast one peer review. |
