Memoirs are collections of experiences and memories that an individual writes about the events of their life. This week, let's talk about writing and reading memoirs. Here are some questions to think about when responding: Some people argue that memoirs are self-indulgent and exploitative. Do you agree or disagree with those people? Why? Well, I went to google self-indulgent and this is what I found that helped me a little bit more... "What self-indulgent writing? Put simply, self-indulgent writing is writing that doesn't work. It is writing that doesn't serve the story. Self-indulgent writing is made up the of the “darlings” you're always being told you're supposed to kill." Well, I went to look up exploitative and this is what I found... ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Exploitative adjective: exploitative; adjective: exploitive making use of a situation or treating others unfairly in order to gain an advantage or benefit. I am not understanding this definition to well because I cannot find it has anything to do with writing as I did with self-indulgent. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ To be honest I do not know because I do not read anything but devotional books lol. If I read any other books they have to be audiobooks and I cannot afford them at this point and time. I generally do not like reading books but I have grown to like the devotional books and audiobooks. With the audiobooks I can listen to it about three times and I may be able to remember the stories from them. With devotionals, I can read small parts of them and remember them no problem because they have shorter readings at a time for me. Would you ever consider writing a memoir based on your life? Why or why not? What would you include or exclude? Yes, I would and I am as we speak even though I have not touched it in about a year now. I am not in any rush on it because it's going to be a fiction book and I have to change everybody's names for it along with that I will not call it my memoir lol. Because of my title for this book. I have not touched it in about a year because I have not found the time to do any of the name changes just yet for this book nor even found the time to get back to writing this book. Have you ever read any memoirs? If so, which ones have been your favorites? Are there any memoirs on your to-read list? No, I have not read a Memoir before and if I do it will have to be an audiobook for me. I do not have any in my to-read list, I just have not found any that I'd like to listen to on audiobooks yet, that's if they have any I like on audiobooks. |
