What are some of your favorite quotes about mental health? What do you like about those quotes? I really like most of the mental health quotes out there that I’ve read, and I tend to share a lot of them on social media from time to time. Most of my favorites have two specific themes - 1) that “WE” can do this together instead of going it alone and - 2) general encouragement, those things that lift me up just from reading. For instance: (1) “Never give up on someone with a mental illness. When “I” is replaced by “we”, illness becomes wellness.” - Shannon L Alder “When someone is going through a storm, your silent presence is more powerful than a million empty words.” – Thelma Davis “We have seen that two heads are better than one when dealing with a mental health problem.” – Kate Middleton (2) “What the caterpillar calls the end of the world, the master calls a butterfly.” – Richard Bach – Just so you all know, Bach has a lot of interesting and uplifting views about life and the world. It is worth checking out some of his books. He is the author of “Jonathan Livingston Seagull”. My favorites are “There’s No Such Place as Far Away” and “One” “Every day begins with an act of courage and hope: getting out of bed.” – Mason Cooley More good quotes of note: “Not until we are lost do we begin to understand ourselves” – Henry David Thoreau “There is no health without mental health; mental health is too important to be left to the professionals alone, and mental health is everyone’s business.” – Vikram Patel “Don’t be ashamed of your story, it will inspire others.” – Unknown “You will emerge from this nightmare like the powerful, beautiful, resilient person that you are. It can be hard to remember this when you feel like a shell of the person you once were, but trust me: you are capable of overcoming much more than you think.” - Unknown What are some mental health quotes you don't find helpful or inspiring? Why do you disagree with them? There are a few that I don’t particularly agree with such as: - "Stress, anxiety, and depression are caused when we are living to please others." -Paulo Coelho This particular one I disagree with because my stress, depression, and anxiety do not come from trying to please others. They come with trying to LIVE, from fighting to survive. So, while some people may create their own stress and anxiety attempting to live for others, that is not the only reason a person will have these problems happen. And there are others which seem to make the mental health issues look cool or fun to have. I do not like those either. It isn’t cool or fun to live, to suffer, through these illnesses. I doubt any of us asked to have these illnesses. What we can do is to look at them realistically and find what works for each of us in order to be able to live & exist in this world as we are. Medications don’t fix us, they are only band-aids on our mental wounds. Meant to help, knowing the problem cannot be completely "fixed". Anything else you want to say about mental health quotes or quotes in general. Other favorite quotes or miscellaneous related tangents welcome. I’d like to leave you all with these parting thoughts: -“He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless.” – Isaiah 40:29 -“Hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for the soul. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary.” – Hebrews 6:19 -“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” – 1 Peter 5:7 -“Even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise” – Les Miserables -“Once you choose HOPE, anything is possible” – Christopher Reeve -“Out of difficulties grow miracles.” – Jean De La Breyere And know that we can be here for each other. Who better to understand than someone living with the same illnesses. LeJenD'Poet - Unapologetically ME. |
