(Don't' read this if you haven't finished the book yet) I never believed that Ellie ran away. Not for a second. The only feasible culprit (beyond a random serial killer /abductor) was the person who did it. (So not very much suspense, except for Poppy's bio father.)

I guess the whole devolving thing could go that way... but it seemed kind of unbelievable that she would be so fixated on Ellie then just let her starve/dehydrate to death from neglect. That was horrible and a little unbelievable. I would have found Ellie getting killed in an escape attempt a lot more believable (and why couldn't she have escaped, really? Just one opponent, even if larger... she had a LOT of time to figure out a way).

And the author's treatment of Ellie's death felt insufficient.

I did like the letter at the end though, even if I found it a little unbelievable. If she really believed that about herself - why didn't she hang onto that, chant it to herself, and find a way to escape?).

Granted, I finished this book earlier in the month and just got around to writing my review. So maybe I forgot something... but that's what I remember thinking.

If this author took a class from Lisa Gardner (not that she gives classes...) she could be AMAZING. So, I'd say this was an okay to good read .. it could have been much better but I did enjoy it.
