I'm SO SORRY about your experiences and ESPECIALLY about your sister!!! I have a cousin who is a heavy drinker and has been through DTs. She still drinks too much, but not as much as before, so I guess that's something. She recently had to stop for a bit and didn't go through any real physical withdrawal, so the good thing is it's not as bad as it has been. The bad thing is that she thinks this amount of drinking (a bottle of vodka every 2-3 days) is okay. Yes, it could be worse, but I so wish it would be better. On the good side, she sometimes agrees she's an alcoholic and needs to quit or at least cut back a whole not more. But on the bad side, she only SOMETIMES thinks that. In the last year she's sustained a TBI, gotten a DUI (she blames the TBI for her not realizing she shouldn't be driving) and broken her ankle so badly she needed surgery...all from drinking. Yet, she is still drunk most nights. I'm sure you understand. There's just nothing you can do except support them when they say they are going to stop and politely point out issues as they come up. Oh well... I hate that you've had to go through all that, especially since I assume the stuff with your mom drinking was at least partly while you were still a kid. What a horrible thing to grow up with!!! I'm so sorry for those memories you have. bitem:2109126} |
