Funny you mention your mom hating the Pensacola VA. That's actually where my friend just left. He was also not impressed. But another friend keeps saying that it is better than the Mobile one (I think it was), so uh, great. Nice to know there are even worse ones. On the good side, I think they've really improved the last decade or so because so many young people have come out of the military and they know how social media works. That brings things to light and they are forced to improve. I know under Republicans, the military and veterans seem to have more benefits and improvements, but there is always only a certain point that they can work to. There are so many other things vying for their time, money, and attention. And there are only so many resources. But hopefully if each one makes improvements, eventually it will be really awesome. I'm so sorry about your mom. That really sucks that they took her there, even if she never even knew. I'm sorry. I do think we are treated as well as we are now because America realized their shameful behavior after Vietnam. We have much better care, many more benefits (including benefits ONLY for post-9/11 vets, which sucks for them), and have definitely be appreciated more than they ever were. And I feel that I've gotten better medical care in the VA than I did after coming back from Iraq, especially in AK. But then, I am at one of the best in the nation, so there's that. Asheville, NC and Eerie, PA switch back and forth between #1 and #2 in the nation...at least, according the the VA's own rating system. It has definitely not been perfect here, but when I talk to other friends, I realize that this is definitely better than most! So, it could be worse.
