The closest I can remember and find is from "The Path Through the Protective Maze" ========== You throw the window and grab the branch. It bends under your weight and you swing over to the mausoleum, landing heavily on its roof. Your fleet slide from under you as you scramble over it, and you nearly topple off, but you make it to the far edge and dive head-first for the wall. You catch the top of it just below your rib cage, busting all the air from your lungs, but you grip and pull yourself over. It may be your imagination, but you think you feel something very sharp nip at your heel as you go over. From outside the garden there is nothing to suggest anything wrong with the house, but you know appearances are absolutely deceptive; the guardian is almost certainly watching you with hunger and malice. You find Lucy's SUV nearby. You climb into it and doze fretfully until dawn. ========== In the related chapter "Losing Lucy" ========== So it's a stroke of luck a little when a little after lunch you find her car. Last night, after locking her away, you had gone to move and hide her car but could find no sign of it. At the time you had concluded that she had taken a cab or gotten a ride, though this struck you as very strange. But while standing atop the mausoleum and taking a clipping from the yew tree (its leaf pattern is articulated in one of the sigils you are studying) your attention was caught by a glint of light. Investigating, you found her SUV hidden behind the house and within a thin screen of trees. It's another oddity: why did she take the trouble to hide it so well? ========== The geography is unclear, and I can see how they can be read as indicating that one could park next to the crypt, but the first passage (the author, ahem, asserts) should be read as implying that the SUV is found on the other side of the wall that Will has just overleapt, and the second as indicating that it is not near the mausoleum but is some distance away. |
