The Whatever Contest -- Closed for Now

Thanks! So, the Army all of drafted mine and wouldn't do more than the bare basics--annoying. But a lot has changed since then, so I need to do another anyhow.

What do you recommend? Here's what I'm thinking for tasks...

- Make a list of all your assets and valuable possessions
- Ask friends, family, and significant others if there is a special possession they would like. It can be valuable or not, but whatever would mean the most to them. Perhaps have them list 3-5 in case their 1st choice is spoken for already? Let them know that you are asking many people, so their #1 choice may not go to them, but you want to be sure they get something that truly matters to them.
- Determine who should get what in terms of possessions and assets. What, if anything are you donating to a religious organization, museum, school, or charity of your choice. If it's not money, contact them to see if they would like the donation upon your death. They may be happy to accept or sell a property or other asset, or they may not want the headache. It's always best to ask first. Also, note that money is typically split among people and organizations by a percentage. If you want a dollar amount, you can set a "not more than" amount, but setting a minimum is trickier unless you specify that if there is X amount, they get Y and if they is W amount, they get Z or whatever. (Is this too much for 1 month? Should they be split to determine possessions and then assets another month?)
- Do you say what to do with your body in the will? I didn't, but is that a common thing? What else besides going to the lawyer? Write a letter to people for after you die? Other ideas?
