Being forced to write 24 chapters of 2,100 words per chapter has made me take the novel in a different direction. At the end of chapter 21, the villain appeared to be defeated, but I still had three more chapters to write, so I gave the villain a contingency plan that allowed her to escape the trap set by the protagonists. Instead of defeating her, I'm thinking there may have to be some kind of truce, where neither side wins. I hit 47,599 words, so this looks like a winning year for me, as far as Nano is concerned!
