The sequel to Cannery Row. I recommend this one as well, but it does use some derogatory terms for Mexican laborers that were apparently common in that time, so the book could be triggering to some. Though they weren't typically used in a negative way, giving me the impression that it wasn't derogatory at the time.
For next year, if you don't have everything all figured out yet, I'd like to suggest the genres of dystopian/apocalyptic, biographies/autobiographies, writing/publishing, short stories, poetry, and self-help/personal development. Note that I wouldn't actually want to listen to (or read) a book of poetry, but some folks might enjoy it. lol
