Looking for a guiding light. May 2024 round is open, looking for short stories. |
"Results" Sea shanties get the crew in rhythm and make them more productive. In this case, the "crew" is your characters, your brain weasels, your muse, your what-have-you. This year's Lodestar contest doesn't ask you to sing, but it does ask you to use a song of your choosing to inspire a story. ---- Instructions and Guidelines ---- Deadline: March 5, 2022 Make a post in this forum with the title and artist of a song you'd like to use as inspiration (not a template) for a story. --The song must have English vocals. (No instrumental-only songs, sorry.) --Song title and artist need to be of a 13+ rating or lower. --Song content may fit within any WdC content rating. --The song must be available on YouTube or Spotify. Below the post box, where the forum gives you the option of sending Gift Points, include 2,000 of them. This is just a deposit; you will get them back as soon as you turn in a story. If you're low on funds, head over to the WdC menu, pick "Community" and then "Auto-Reward Items." Review something(s) on that list. If, at any time, you want to change your song, make a new post with your new song choice and include 2,000 GPs with the post; these will be returned to you when you turn in a story. Your first 2k, however, is the price of abandoning your first choice. Those GPs will go into the Grand Prize. Creativity is highly valued here. To repeat a key point: the song is meant to be inspiration, not a template. All content ratings welcome, but be aware of this forum's content rating (13+) when choosing your title, item description, and what type of link to use to post it. Your story needs to be between 1,500 and 5,500 words long. Note your word count at the top of your item. Include the song title and artist at the bottom of your item. Proofread, edit, and revise. One story per contestant. Not a requirement, but things are likely to run more smoothly if you make a brand new post to link your story entry. Once you've posted your story, you'll: --get a reaction on your post from Satuawany and a reply containing your 2k GP deposit. --get a reaction on your post from Satuawany and nothing else. You have failed to include a word count in your item, failed to include the song title and artist in your item, and/or failed to include one or both of them where they're supposed to be. Fix it and say you have in a reply to your post, in a new post, or in an email to Satuawany . --get a reaction on your post from Satuawany and a reply that explains why. --get a reaction on your post from Satuawany . This means she messed up and you're free to mock her for it. She's the sole judge, though, so make it creative. * Linking ▼ Judging notes: 1.) If the characters are engaging, the story has a great chance of being engaging. 2.) Don't get caught up in trying to incorporate all the lyrics; be inspired, not shackled. 3.) Still, it should be evident that the song inspired the story. 4.) No matter how engaging the characters, beautiful the story, or genius the interpretation of the lyrics, none of it will come through with poor grammar and mechanics. A few typos aren't going to hurt your chances, but general sloppiness will. ---- Qualified Entries ---- "The Stalker" [E] by Sumojo "Rewind" [13+] by J.B.
