A meeting place for novelists and novel reviewers, with a little added incentive. |
Writers: Are you interested in having readers review your novel? Yes- very much so. - Would you review a novel in exchange? Yes - What if the word count is different? It's probably unlikely to be the same. I think as long as the word count is roughly equal by give or take 10-20k words. I would read up to 120k words if need be. - Comments about genre and content ratings? I don't have a problem with content ratings, although I'm not keen on erotica. Regular romance novel level is fine, but excessive, not so much. I don't have a problem with language or violence. - Would you be willing to pay in GPs or other currency? How much? Not sure about GP's unless someone wants to read without a novel to trade in exchange. I guess GP's would be OK depending upon how much. - What's your timing? When would you have a manuscript ready? I have 1 ready now- already done final edits. Have a 2nd almost at final edit stage. Two completely different genres though. Novel 1- geared towards adult and NOT YA. Some sex, violence, language. Genre- Paranormal/Urban Fantasy/Thriller/Vampire/Witches/Historical Approx 106k word count. Novel 2- Satire/Humor Genre- Religious Satire/Humor/Fantasy suitable for Middle Grade/High YA or Adult Approx 80k word count. Readers: Are you willing to review a writer's novel? YES - What would motivate you? GPs, other currency, prizes, reviews in exchange, anything else? Primary motivation- someone reading and reviewing mine. Secondary- doesn't matter. I suppose GP's just so I can turn around and gift them to whoever read mine. - Comments about genre and content ratings? Would recommend basic comments about genre, content. I don't have a problem with most things, but am not keen on erotica. Prefer fiction but will read non-fiction depending upon book. - Would you be willing to review chapter by chapter or prefer to read the whole thing and summarize comments? Would prefer entire novel that way can make overall notes. Timeline would be one month for novel lengths 70-100k. - Would you be willing to read a first/ rough draft for overall plot, character, setting problems and disregard grammar/ usage/ spelling and other technical issues? No- I would prefer completed novel at final draft stage rather than a first/rough draft. Would be willing to take one in a second/third draft phase if most grammar/technical issues were already resolved. Any other thoughts about the execution of this activity? Novel writers would probably want to define what they are looking for: example- are you looking for fine line edits or bigger story concept issues, etc. Big checks vs little checks. Also- feeling/skin level of writer. ie- only want positive comments vs- let me have it- tell me everything that's wrong. |
