I love it that you've already got some irons in the fire. Something needs to have happened in order for the Hamiltons to suddenly want the land back. It could be something to do with the value of the land increasing, but it would hit harder if it got really personal. And what if the person who is inheriting has accidentally uncovered information while investigating for personal reasons? What if he discovered there was a reason the Hamiltons might still own the place. He's conflicted about telling, but confides in someone who spreads the rumor. Then he's upset because the wrongs done to his own family are not as well documented, but the Hamiltons want to use something he found as proof that they can take the land back?
