Here is an idea. David can only split into three parts. The main part that is David controlling the body he is possessing, and two other parts that that can only allow him to take or transfer knowlegde, eventually being able to do a complete swap between two other people. Instead of investigating the Ft. , David is recruited by the particular branch of the army stationed there, and partnered with Lt. Briggs. The two other parts of David are used to help Lt. Briggs assume a targets identity for spying, infiltration, sabotage, ect. Together they are tasked with hunting Fane, the Stella, cryptids, or any of the other groups that are involved in that world for various reasons. It would give them the excuse to go do other stuff, infiltrate the high schools, colleges, or any businesses.
