Concerning the unhappy ending: let them do Kissing+. Usually, that literally shakes out unhappiness.

No, seriously now: I admit I'm a sucker for a happy ending, and after what I put Vince and Laura through in this one, they shall have theirs... for now. (And Vince will almost bomb it on the finish line... so it's a hard-earned happy for now.

See where I'm going? It must neither be happy or unhappy, it can be in-between. And still be very real, despite the Fantasy genre.

God knows, Vince will be very real while almost bombing it.

Concerning the brainstorming, I'm a boring poop.

Read a book / magazine. Listen to a song. Watch something on TV / a movie. Go grocery shopping or out for shopping, and WHAM!

It happens so frequently now that I even have an official notebook now!

The last few weeks I was in a unique position that didn't have too much to do with actual brainstorming, but the research I could do on site in New York City, was very inspiring.

I walked the ways Vince does to and fro the ferry terminal to Manhattan, I took the subways he takes to and fro work, or to his best friend. I actually staked out the concerning police precincts (fictionalized one, though.) I walked the streets of Little Italy and "found" his family's restaurant (which in reality is a souvenir shop, though. Artistic liberty, eh?) I also found his childhood home in Tottenville, Staten Island, and bathed at the beach where some important scenes in this story take place... and so on.
