October Novel Prep Challenge

I have determined the story should take place around 1885. It's hard to put the map together with current towns and ghost towns that existed around that time. Then I am also wanting to have it make since in the order I have my main character go from town to town while he is running from the law. It's a western. This is my first attempt at a Western. Does anyone have any suggestions? All the list of current and ghost towns are in alphabetical order. I have tried looking up old maps and am not finding what I am looking for.
