The Contest Challenge

To be clear, when you enter previous month's contests, you are entering with the current prompt, otherwise, you can't win. I felt like that was obvious, but I've had a surprising number of people submit entries to contests that have months' old prompts. So, former contest (as found in the Previously Highlighted Contests 2023 dropnote), but use the current prompt.

WdC is definitely a special place. SM (StoryMaster, the site owner) doesn't allow drama and such. Of course, there's always little squabbles or bits of drama here and there as we're all human, but as a whole, nope.

When you are reviewing, remember to check out out the Community tab on the left. There's Read & Review, Review a Newbie, and Auto-Reward Items that all give better than average rewards, as I understand it. (I don't really review much, so I could be wrong about Review a Newbie, but I'm sure the others pay better.) You can also check out "WdC 2023 Birthday Review Raffle - CLOSED" . It's closed (only open in September for the WdC birthday), but there are 2 helpful (IMO lol) dropnotes. One helps you with additional things to comment on when you are reviewing. The other helps you with ways to earn more rewards from your reviews.

If it's your dream to write a book, are you participating in NaNo (AKA NaNoWriMo AKA National Novel Writing Month)? It starts November 1. Never heard of it? The goal is to write 50k words towards your novel. They aren't supposed to be great and you're not supposed to edit. It's just supposed to be a jumpstart on your novel so you have something to work on and finish over the next few months.

If you need inspiration, I really recommend the Adoption Forums on the NaNo website -- https://www.nanowrimo.org. I swear by them! You have to sign up to access them, but it's free. On the main page, click Community near the top. Then click Forums. Then search for Adoption Society. There's something similar like Adoption of Society or something that I keep accidentally clicking. No. Adoption Society. In that section, you'll see lots of threads -- Adopt a Plot, Adopt a Horror Plot, Adopt a Subplot, Adopt a Plot Complication, Adopt a Title, etc. You can adopt (and change) unlimited ideas and are free to abandon whatever doesn't work for you. And unlimited people can adopt the same one because each idea will be done differently. I actually abandoned my original idea while prepping in October a couple of years ago because something in Adopt a Title grabbed me. lol I love reading through them. I get so many exciting ideas!
