"Results" The boatswain oversees the equipment and the crew. This is the person who makes sure everything and everyone is in place and in working order. In this round, you'll need to make the best use of your equipment and crew to make a short story sail. ---- Instructions and Guidelines ---- Opens: February 1 Deadline: February 29 Choose a "crew member" (secondary character) and a piece of "equipment" (item) from the lists in the section below. (Posted February 1st.) Put them to work in a short story. These notes are important: The character you choose from the list should not be the main character, but they should be important enough that the plot cannot be resolved without them. Please don't make your choice from the equipment list a MacGuffin. Please do not set apart the text for your chosen character or item with bold, italics, color, etc. All content ratings welcome, but be aware of this forum's content rating (13+) when choosing your title, item description, and what type of link to use to post it. Your story needs to be between 1,500 and 5,500 words. Not required, but it would be great to have your word count in the body of your post when you link your entry. All fiction genres are welcome. Proofread, edit, and revise. One story per contestant. * Linking ▼ Judging notes: 1.) If the characters are engaging, the story has a great chance of being engaging. 2.) No matter how engaging the characters, beautiful the story, or genius the incorporation of the contest's requirements, none of it will come through with poor grammar and mechanics. A few typos aren't going to hurt your chances, but general sloppiness will. ---- Equipment and Crew ---- You need one item from the "Equipment" list and one character from the "Crew" list. You're free to interpret these any way you like. (Note: there doesn't need to be a literal "crew" in your story at all.) ---- Qualified Entries ---- "Fair Trade" [13+] by Lynn McKenzie "The Tower of Esoteric Joy" [18+] by Dawn Embers "Proper Entertainment" [13+] by J.B.
