Old Man Walking in the Rain

An old man
Takes a walk
In late October.

As the rain
Falls down
All around him.

In San Francisco
His home town
Where he had
recently returned.

He walked in the rain
Thinking dark thoughts
Of past loves lost.

Of things he had done
Things he had not done
People lost in time.

Filled with the memories
Of a long lifetime.
He walked down the street.

He ended up in a bar
He had a few drinks
Looking out.
As the rain falls down.

He walked out
Into the rainy October night
The rain falling down
All over him.
