You definitely can do two different viewpoints in a story. Granted, it is a little easier if they are separated by chapters but it isn't the only way. You can do different viewpoints in the same chapter but make sure you have some way to indicate when it changes. I don't recommend going back and forth often within the chapter but switching one or two times can be okay if it's necessary to show things to the reader from one particular character instead of the other.

Will want to be careful so that it doesn't become head hopping. This is why I suggest having a way to indicate which point of view is being used.

Dual main character point of view stories are common in romance. Most will put the character's name at the top of each section or chapter that is in their point of view to help the reader.
