First, welcome to Writing.Com, CompletePantser. I believe you've taken a solid step forward in your quest to write your book. This site has so many features AND members to help you on your journey.
Second, a word of advice--when you write, don't edit as you go. Stop scratching your work out. Just get your thoughts on paper. Let you mind wander; let it go wherever it wants to go. If you think of an idea for a sub-plot, jot it down on a separate piece of paper for use later. I think you'll find your mind is as creative as it needs to be by not starting and stopping all the time. Edit after you get your thoughts down.
