Yes, Bob Dylan. I remember listening to him like he was this wise prophet when I was a teenager. His lyricism is first-class. As you say, he tells stories. You don't need choruses or super-catchy tunes, and you don't need to have the best voice in the world, when your tell a compelling story.

I remember when 'Jagged Little Pill' by Alanis Morissette first came out, and it seemed to me that her songwriting was heavily influenced by Dylan. Maybe it was the harmonica, I don't know. Naturally, that album became a listen-to-until-it's-worn-out album, for me.
