There's quite a few I like. Lot of Stephen King and Roger Carpenter but if I had to pick one movie, it has to be from the 1950's movie called, The Forbidden Planet with Gregory Peck, Earl Holliman, Leslie Neilson and with Robbie the Robot.
It's a planet where Morbious [Peck] discovers an alien sophisticated power machinery 1 million years ahead of mankind. He developed the power of his ID [psyche] to destroy the people who came with him and tried to destroy the recently landed craft with Leslie Neilson who was the captain. One of the better made sc-fi movies of the 1950's.
