How to Sell 1,000 Books a Month: Strategies to Improve Sales by Susan U. Neal, RN, MBA, MHS | 222 pages My first issue with this book is that the author felt the need to let us know that she's an RN, and MBA, and a MHS. Last I checked, being a Registered Nurse with dual Masters degrees in Business Administration and Health Sciences has absolutely nothing to do with improving book sales. I mean, maybe the MBA could touch on it a bit, but c'mon. Especially since this author apparently wrote a book about Christian book sales, which was a surprise to be because she decided it was important to mention her educational accomplishments on the cover of the book, but made no mention of the very specific author niche she was writing a book about selling books for. ![]() Overall, the content in the book suffered from the same lack of intention and care that went into the cover. This is a book about ostensibly improving your book sales to thousands of copies a month — and promises to tell you how — but ultimately fails to do much more than list the same stuff that everyone else says. You should start a blog! You should go to writer conferences! You should pay to advertise your book! You should make sure you have an author website! YoU ShOuLd TrY tO FiNd LoYaL ReAdErS. Even if you are an author for Christian audiences (which again, I suspect that many people picking up this book may not be and realize after they've started reading that it's tailored for that niche), I'm not sure this is a book that you just have to read to improve your author business. Despite her apparently many advanced degrees and professional certifications, this author doesn't really tell you anything about running an author business that you haven't heard a hundred times if you've researched this topic at all in the past. |
