I didn't realize that, either! I was just browsing and came across this two-in-one and was like, "Whaaat?" For me, the Disney movie is better because it isn't gruesome like the book is. The movie strikes the right emotional chord for me without being too rough, which is what I prefer.
Yes, when I was looking at reviews of Bambi, there were some comparisons to Watership Down. I had thought at different times that I ought to read it, but given that several people think these two books feel similarly, I'm not sure that I will read Watership Down... XD There are too many other stories that I know I will enjoy better to spend my time voluntarily reading a story that I probably won't like.
Bambi in the theater would've been neat, although it probably would have scared me as a child to see on the big screen. XD Disney's classic Tarzan was my very first theater movie, and to this day, the movie and the music is special to me because of that. Even though Sabor the Leopard was a bit scary. XD
