Where all you have to do is read books to receive awesome prizes. |
This could go in a variety of categories, but I'm going with True Crime, even though it's paranormal, because one of the stories was told in true crime style and I have no books for October yet ![]() "Dates From Hell: Four Otherworldly Tales of Paranormal Trysts" by Kim Harrison Lynsay Sands Kelley Armstrong Lori Handeland I liked Lynsay Sands' story best (though the werewolf one was pretty good too). Hers was the second one, and while the first one was the most "true crime" like, this one also involved a crime, though in this case the crime was perpetrated on the heroine and she turned it to her advantage. Then it got kind of chic lit and more comical than true crime, but it kept my interest well. I loved the heroine after how she handled the crime (I wasn't sure if I was going to like her at first because her job involved doing animal testing, which I am opposed to, especially when it hurts them). The crime occurred in her science lab. In the first one, by Harrison, the heroine was a crime solving homicide detective. I wanted to like it (there were things that made me think I would like it, like her job and her being a vampire), but I pretty much hated that story. I tried and made myself read the first few chapters, because the author has such a great reputation, and I don't think I've read anything by her before, but it was just not my thing. I found myself skimming a lot. The other two were good, but even though I just finished the book a couple days ago, they have kind of merged in my mind. What I did note was that I'd be willing to read books by either of these authors again. And Lynsay Sands was one of my favorites for historical romance and paranormal romance already, which is why I borrowed the book from the library in the first place. She usually manages to make me laugh, although two of her books *really* made me laugh a lot, and most just have a few chuckles here and there. |
