Oh, that sucks. From your review, I don't think I would enjoy this book. As you said, Japan's culture is very different from ours, but I would struggle with fat shaming and misogynistic attitudes. That wouldn't be my bag at all. Maybe, read something from a different country, and not Japan. That might work better.

With regards to audiobook narrations; I'm listening to 'The Housemaid's Secret' at the moment, and I find myself actually snapping at the narrator and making snide comments to her. I can't help it. I really can't stand the way she reads. I'm very much looking forward to the end of this book, which is a shame because I think I would enjoy it if not for the narrator.
