I tend to use a credit card for larger purchases (gas, groceries and such), although I rotate my main 2 monthly. I'll use a check for the water bill (it's local, and what's the point of having gotten the checks a decade ago, if I never use them?), but other things will process via a direct debit online from the checking account.
Also, and I've wondered how this might work and depending on whom you ask, you may be able to get away with using a toaster cord for items costing about a buck (Louie Anderson) or an actual toaster for items up to about 40 bucks (John Pinette).
