I'd like to revisit this, though. I'd much rather be able to see a word count on a static item than its item size. Even after over twenty years here, "item size" doesn't really tell me what I'm getting into.
And seeing "word count" up there in the info would be extremely helpful to contest judges with word count maximums and minimums. It'd be extremely helpful to contestants, too, since we'd no longer have to incorporate word counts into our item's space. (Even if the word count might be off because of author notes and such, it still gives a better idea.)
It seems so much more helpful to have word count than item size in the item info that I feel like there's definitely a reason it's not done that way already, but I can't suss it out.
Just seems backwards that item size is front-facing when it's seemingly only useful to the writer (who has to pay attention to item size limits) and word count is only on the writer's side of things when it's more useful to the reader than item size is.
