Judging by their present personalities, my own kids learned to be themselves more than anything else. I dare say I had a hand in that.
Much later, I was employed in teaching teenagers who had been excluded from school. The aim was to make them vaguely employable in adulthood. Since some of them returned to thank us, I must assume that we were successful on occasion.
