Update: Stumbling through the week (2026.01.19)

Core Goals

*Boxcheck* Write, edit, or outline every weekday: Got this one done. I did a writing exercise, did some editing, and started a new short story.

*Boxcheck* Get exercise: I didn't manage to follow up on the very active week I had before this, but I did manage to get in a couple of training sessions, and it seems to be helping on both my back, elbow, and general mood. *Smile*

*Box* Eat healthier: Ugh, no... I mean, it could have been worse, but I definitely failed this goal.

*Box* / *Boxcheck* Read with intention: I'm not really sure about this one. I guess that I sort of did achieve it, but then again, I actually didn't read much fiction this week, so it's difficult to say.

*Box* Focus while writing: This one I definitely failed, and I think I pretty much blame the illness and work. Between being dragged in every direction at work and having to take care of a sick child, it was almost impossible to get the time and quiet needed to focus on my writing. Sigh... And it had gone so well the week before. I hope things will normalize, and I can manage focus more.

*Boxcheck* Do Codex reviews: It was difficult finding the time, but I managed to review all the entries in my group.

Stretch Goals

*Box* / *Boxcheck* Do voice exercises: Again, sickness meant I didn't get to for this goal in earnest. I did get a couple of exercises in, so I didn't fail completely, at least.

*Box* Do a WYRM review: I got started on one, but I didn’t manage to finish it.

*Boxcheck* *Boxcheck* Write, edit, or outline Saturday and Sunday: Giving myself double marks for this one, because I was extremely productive this weekend. I wrote a story for a Codex competition Saturday, and not being happy with the outcome, I wrote new story Sunday (which turned out much better).

*Boxcheck* Do writing exercises : I did a character exercise Monday and got this goal done early. Also, it was a great exercise which I found really useful, so that's good. *Smile*

*Box* Read short stories: I think it’s the first time I failed this goal. I was only one story short of hitting it, and again, with the week I had, there wasn’t much I could do. I just have to do better next week.
- Listened to a Podcastle story. It didn't really work for me. Not because it did anything "wrong", but the voice was putting me off, and there was something about the premise that made me think, "Oh, I can tell which kind of emotional punch this will have" and that put me off as well.
- I read "Charge of The Light Brigade" which is a poem, sure, but I also read up on the background, so I think I'll count that one here.

*Box* Read “new” magazines: Likewise, I also failed this reading goal for the first time.

*Boxcheck* *Boxcheck* Read/listen to non-fiction: I'm not even going to list all the podcasts/video documentaries I listened to/watched this week. This is one goal, at least, where I exceeded my expectations.

*Box* Do year-end/start posts: Ugh. I didn’t have time to start another blog post. Next week, next week.

*Boxcheck* *Boxcheck* Submit short stories: I got around to submitting an older story that was rejected (again) last week. Also, I did something I rarely do and submitted two poems. And since i also finished editing a Danish SF story this week, I got that sent off to the only Danish SF anthology right away.

*Boxcheck* Do Fantasticon work: I finally followed up on some SoMe and Guest of Honor stuff from last week. It was really super simple, I just needed to get myself into gear again.
