Do you write for publication? What markets? Use market guides? Which ones? |
Before you submit to anything you should check out what they like, of course, but frequently you can do that on-line. Go to some of the religious mag websites, they'll usually have guidelines, submission instructions, and an article or two. Being atheist, I don't know what's considered controversial if you're still pro-religion and writing for a religious mag. I could see a mag getting huffy if they're called "Hebrew Quarterly", and you send them a piece on why being Christian is the one true way to whatever. Short of that, I don't think I'd recognize controversy in that context. If you can't find the data you need on-line, go visit a few churches/temples/whatever. I bet the pastor/priest/preacher/whatever has some mags in the office he/she reads, ask to look through them. Don't forget your local library, too, you'd be amazed at what some of them subscribe to! I don't recall, did you say you have Writers' Market? It's crucial, but if you don't have it, I've never seen a library that didn't have a copy available somewhere in the system.
