As for religious people, here's the thing. Mi amor (you may know who he is by now) is far from religious yet he pointed out (somewhat concerned) that by having a group of people (say about 100 or so in the story) be religious yet also sadistic almost creates a stereotype (although it may be a reverse stereotype in this case) of Christians being the evil ones while having one Christian do an evil deed would be considered an anomaly. I can understand his logic, but there reasons I went with using the group. The first was to justify the narrator's paranoia. The second is a bit more frightening. In my opinion, it is entirely possible for Christians in mass numbers to do evil things. While the Christians in my story aren't quite as ruthless as the KKK, I'm not about to deny the possibility of evil, hypocritical Christians (especially on Halloween, when this story takes place).
